Parks Canada. Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings, 1970-1972. Trafalgar Township & Oakville

From December 1971 into 1972, Parks Canada had those area buildings that were identified as 100 or more years old, photographed. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project. From 2018 into 2021, the Trafalgar Township Historical Society worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to collect these photographs for the area of Trafalgar Township and Oakville, Ontario. The TTHS has shared the images with the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation. QS-7081-OOO-EE-Al Catalogue No. R64-98/ 1979 ISBN 0-662-10483-8 Design: Gregory Gregory L On page 6, this booklet explains that selection of the buildings could be made by a number of agencies such as the federal government, local historical advisors to the municipality and the photographs could be taken by these agencies and/or by local conservators of some kind or private citizens. This accounts for the address choices made in Halton County and for the quality of the photographs. The buildings in the collection are all framed houses. There was scant attempt to photograph the shed out back that was the original settler cabin. The area from the north side of Dundas to Lower Base Line, the oldest area settler properties, do not seem to have been kept by Archives or Parks Canada. Only south side of Dundas to Lake Ontario, from the Mississauga Town Line (Winston Churchill Blvd. to Bronte Creek is available. The TTHS has also shared the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.
