CORRECTION NOTICE In the circular beginning Friday, March 12, 2021, the regular price for Best Ideas for Kids® Craft Kits was incorrectly stated at 9.99 each. The correct regular price for the kits is 11.99 each. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Children 12 and under can now ride Oak- ville Transit for free. Town of Oakville staff said the pilot pro- gram will provide additional value to resi- dents when traveling by public transit by eliminating financial barriers for those wishing to travel with children and creat- ing a seamless travel experience. Customers may be asked to provide proof of age for any of the concession cate- gories (child, youth, senior) before they board. Oakville Transit encourages all riders to obtain a Presto card, noting this helps iden- tify the correct concession. They said when a child uses the Presto card, the ride will be recorded as a $0 fare. "We're thrilled to launch this program and offer free transit for children 12 and un- der," said Barry Cole, director of Oakville Transit. "We hope this gives riders an easier and more affordable transit experience, result- ing in long-term transit use." Oakville Transit is piloting this program until Dec. 31, 2022 to allow for accumulation and analysis of sufficient post-pandemic data to inform a 2023 budget decision. In addition, staff say this will provide time to assess the experience of the other transit agencies with similar programs. Oakville Transit officials say they hope the new program will create convenient re- gional travel, improve customer experience and encourage ridership. Town staff are expected to report back to council in December on the program re- sults. For more information, visit www.oakvil- letransit.ca.
