Note: Town Council's decision and this notice are subject to court order and pending court proceedings. The town considered and responded to this application under section 34 of the Ontario Heritage Act on its heritage and planning merits without prejudice to its position that the application is not a valid section 34 application, as described in pending court proceedings scheduled to be heard by the court in July 2018. Under the court order, any appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board from the town's refusal will not proceed until after the final determination of the court proceedings, and only if the property owner is successful at court. Notice o f Intention to Designate On February 12, 2018, Oakville Town Council resolved to pass a Notice of Intention to Designate the following property under Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. O.18, as amended, as a property of cultural heritage value and interest: W ettlau fer House 2467 Old Bronte Road, Oakville, Ontario Part o f Lot 30, Concession 1 Trafalgar SDS, as in 784679, Oakville Description o f Property The Wettlaufer House is located on the east side of Old Bronte Road south of Dundas Street West. The property contains a two and a half storey red brick residence constructed circa 1909. Statem ent o f Cultural Heritage Value o r Interest The Wettlaufer House, municipally known as 2467 Old Bronte Road, has cultural heritage value or interest in its design/physical value, historic/associative value and contextual value. The Wettlaufer House has design/physical value as a representative example of an early 20th century residence constructed in the vernacular Edwardian architectural style. Typical Edwardian architectural elements found on the subject property include its simple, classical, balanced form; two and a half storey massing; smooth brick facade with multiple windows; 1-over-1 sash windows with plain stone lintels and simplified brick voussoirs. The residence is also considered to be a rare remaining early 20th century residential building from the historic Village of Palermo. The Wettlaufer house has historical/associative value for its association with the development of the Village of Palermo, the oldest settlement within the present boundaries of the Town of Oakville. The Village of Palermo was settled in 1806 and predates the settlement of the villages of Oakville and Bronte by approximately 20 years. Further, the Wettlaufer House yields information about the early 20th century development phase of the village, and about an architectural style that was popular at the time. The residence at 2467 Old Bronte Road is historically associated with the Wettlaufer family, who, for over 100 years played significant roles in the early Palermo community. George Wettlaufer settled with his family in the district circa 1901, and subsequently retired to the subject property in 1926, with two widowed daughters. George's son Eckhardt Wettlaufer married Ethel Irene Giles, who taught at Palermo School, S.S. #2 from 1944 into the 1950s. The property remained in the Wettlaufer family for 90 years. The Wettlaufer House remains physically, visually and historically linked to the local area. Despite many changes to the area, including fires and road widenings, the character of the historic Village of Palermo remains, and the residence at 2467 Old Bronte Road is one of the remaining links to the village's historic past. N o tice o f S tudy C o m m e n c e m e n t Shelburne Promenade Shoreline Im provem ents The Town of Oakville has initiated a study to assess shoreline protection needs at Shelburne Promenade, which is located east of Great Lakes Boulevard off of Shelburne Place. Shelburne Promenade has been identified as a top priority site for shoreline protection repair and maintenance due to the deteriorated condition of protection measures currently in-place. Shelburne Promenade and other town-owned shoreline properties were re-assessed and re-prioritized following the high lake level conditions in 2017. The 2017 Shoreline Inventory and Assessment will be finalized shortly and will be made available on the town's website at oakville.ca/environment/ shoreline.html. The process A Public Information Centre (PIC) is being planned to discussissuesrelatedtotheproject,includingalternative solutions, evaluation criteria, environmental impacts and mitigation measures.
