The Sheridan College student team included Alexandra D'Oliveira, Michael Mofina, Patrick Marchent, and Neil Smith. Students from across the province were invited to submit a landscape or industrial design proposal for a local Toronto creative hub, Artscape Youngplace, with the hope of having their winning design brought to life. Teams attended a two-day Design Jam where participants developed and presented their concepts to a panel of judges. The challenge resulted in six top prizes being awarded and members of the winning teams each receiving a scholarship award. The Sheridan College student team each received a $3,000 scholarship for their first place design. "The goal of the Design Challenge is to ignite creativity and innovative environmental landscape architecture and industrial design for urban spaces, while showcasing the aesthetics, functionality and high performance of Ontario tire-derived products," stated a media release. "The winning student designs will influence real construction at Artscape Youngplace in the coming year." The goal is to build a collection of volunteer stories that illustrate and celebrate the volunteer effort that has built Oakville's arts and culture community, according to the OAC. The stories will then be used as part of an exhibit in the main gallery at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre in January 2017. September deadline for submissions Stories will be collected until September. Anyone interested in contributing to the project can do so by: · submitting a volunteer story via a form event teams; · sharing the weblink with an organization's members or friends, family, and colleagues who may want to participate; · scheduling a story meeting with the OAC by emailing artscounciloakville@gmail.com. Stories will celebrate art achievements "These stories will build a very important timeline of Oakville's cultural community, and help us celebrate all of our collective achievements in the arts and culture sector," stated a media release.
