During the Halton police December RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign officers stopped more than 15,000 vehicles. During these stops, officers arrested 31 people for impaired driving, which was down from the 56 impaired driving arrests made last year. Suspensions issued for blowing a "warn" on an alcohol-screening device were up this year -- with police handing down 46 threeday suspensions. This is a 65 per cent increase from 28 in 2014. Despite the reduced number of arrests, police say one impaired driver on local streets is too many and noted police would continue to educate the public about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving as well as conduct RIDE spot checks to catch those who make the wrong decision.
