The money was raised by an annual golf tournament that Boston Pizza sponsors. The tournament, held at Chippewa Creek Golf and Country Club in Mount Hope, has raised more than $160,000 over the past decade for the 15 Special Olympics Oakville sport clubs that represent 13 different sports. The funds help purchase equipment, provide training aids, pay for uniforms, facilitate the development of new sport clubs and offer travel opportunities to regional competitions. They also assist Oakville athletes who qualify for provincial or national games. The tournament committee is comprised by a group of Gordon E. Purdue high school graduates who decided 10 years ago over dinner to support a local charity by running a golf tournament. Present for the cheque presentation were (from left to right) Sandy Beauchesne, Rob McLean, Emily Boycott, Elisha Donaghey-Johnston, Boston Pizza co-owner Donna Corrigan, Janice Donaghey, Andrew Beauchesne and Debbie Boycott. | photo by Franki Ikeman -- Special to the Beaver Rock loses heartbreaker, has pivotal games on deck The Oakville Rock saw its three-game Major Series Lacrosse winning streak snapped in cruel fashion Monday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
