No one injured in natural gas leak A natural gas leak at a Preserve Drive construction site -- at Sixth Line and Dundas Street -- triggered a small-scale evacuation Thursday morning. At 8:45 a.m., a passerby noticed the odour of gas in the area and called the Oakville fire department. Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn said firefighters, upon arrival, found an excavator had damaged a four-inch gas line causing it to leak. "This was in a residential area under construction. There was only one home evacuated because there was only one home occupied in that area," said Glynn. "Fire crews set up a hot zone and secured an area around where the gas leak was. Police cordoned off an area blocking a number of streets in that vicinity." Glynn said Union Gas worked to fix the leak.
