"During his tenure at HHS, John provided the organization with exceptional strategic leadership that ultimately translated to better healthcare services for each of the communities that we serve," said Judy Wilson, HHS board chair. While his HHS career has lasted 23 years, Oliver said some of the things he is most proud of have taken place more recently. "The last three or five years dedicated to capital renewal is probably the peak achievement for me. The new Oakville hospital... (It's been great) seeing that come up out of the ground from what was a vision back about eight to 10 years ago. It is suddenly materializing and coming into fruition and, likewise, for the Milton project. We are about a year away from starting construction up there," said Oliver. "Just the chance to watch the renewal of the hospitals at all three of our sites has been a major accomplishment (of which) I will remain quite proud." Oliver represented HHS beyond its communities. In 1999, Oliver was seconded to the position of Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. He was chair of the board of Shared Services West (SSW) for five years and continues as a member of the SSW board and recently completed a three-year term as a member of the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee. Oliver was chair of the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario, Halton-Peel District Health Council and the Reference Group on Hospital and Physician Issues. In 2011, he was awarded a Fellowship in The Institute of Charted Accountants of Ontario. In 2012, he was presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal.
