The Burloak Canoe Club will officially launch its on-water season Saturday, April 6 with the first of two public open houses and registration sessions. "The start of our paddling season is met with excitement year in and year out," said Adam Oldershaw, Burloak's head coach. "Coming off the Olympic triumphs of our very own Adam van Koeverden and Mark Oldershaw, Burloak is riding a wave we hope will carry through 2013." Saturday's open house and registration session will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burloak Canoe Clubhouse, located at 160 Water St. in Oakville. The other open house and registration session is slated for Sunday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the same location. OAK sending 20 swimmers to world trials Oakville Aquatic Club's (OAK) top national-level swimmers are in Victoria, B.C. this week to compete in the world championship trials. Representing OAK at the meet are Annika Grewal, Mackenzie Hamill, Jackie Keire, Bryce Kwiecien-Delaney, Lauren Lalumiere, Evan White, David Whiteside, Mitchell Gour, Connor Wilkins, Gamal Assaad, Omar Arafa, Duncan Partridge, Sharalynn Missiuna, Marni Oldershaw, Annie Harrison, Mack Darwill represent Canada at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona this summer. "We are excited to have such a diverse team encompassing agegroup and varsity athletes," said OAK head coach Sean Baker. "The fact that the team is growing and OAK continues to strive for excellence at the national level is exciting. It is our goal to place top five as a team and to place more than five athletes into the finals." Ten players from Oakville took part in the camp, which drew the best minor midget-aged players. | Eric Riehl - Oakville Beaver Local talent on display at OMHA camp Ten Oakville players took part in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association's Gold Cup selection camp at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on the weekend. The camp gave the OMHA coaching staff, which includes Oakville's Duncan Harvey, an opportunity to see the top players from around the province before selecting two teams that will compete in the Gold Cup. The eight-team tournament to be held in Kitchener May 9-12, features teams from Ontario's six minor hockey organizations. Among the players taking part were eight members of the Oakville Rangers' OHL Cup championship team -- defencemen Andrew Burns and Matt Spencer and forwards Adam Craievich, Brett McKenzie, Jess Barwell, Sean Kohler and Matt Luff. Defenceman Kyle Capobianco, a Mississauga native, also took part. Other Oakville players at the camp were goalies Benjamin Blacker and Scott Smith and forward Josh Kosack. Blacker and Kosack play for the Brampton 45s while Smith plays for the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs. Oakville, which finished first in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League regular-season standings, had played most of its tournaments at the AA level, reaching the semifinal each time. The Toronto Aeros scored with 20 seconds left in regulation and got the winner 21 seconds into the second overtime period. DaSilva had a 5-4 record with two shutouts and a 2.21 goals against average in the playoffs. Capizzano, the Chiefs' captain, had three goals and three assists in 12 playoff games. BSL Men's Over 50 Soccer Registration The Burlington Soccer League (BSL) is holding registration sessions for the new Over 50 Division. When?
