The ballet opens on Friday. The Nutcracker has been performed in Oakville on an annual basis during the holidays since 1972. The first year performance was part of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Carol concerts. The tradition continues this year with 120 local dancers from the ballet school and a number of guest artists. Tempus choir Christmas concert Tempus Choral Society is giving residents two chances to come out and get into the holiday spirit with them. The 92-voice choir is holding a pair of concerts, one on Friday (Nov. 30) and the other on Saturday (Dec. 1). "Our annual Christmas concerts are an Oakville tradition," said Tempus choir director Brian Turnbull, in a news release. "The choir won a bronze medal at the World Choir Games in Cincinnati last summer. We came back re-energized and have created what we think is a glorious Christmas musical experience for all ages." The concert will include sacred and secular music. Highlights include a performance of Born a Stranger, with lyrics adapted from a Christina Rossetti poem in a new arrangement; a Kirby Shaw arrangement of Deck the Halls; new arrangements with jazz harmonies of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and many more. Tickets cost $15.
