LISI, Vincenzo (Vince) Born on September 26, 1920 in Toritto, Bari, Italy and passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Milton District Hospital in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Angelina Lisi (2006) for 59 years. Father of Stella McNeill, Lina Powell (Doug) and Vita Lisi-Rigole (Mike). Grandfather of Angela (Sam), Cesa (Kerry) Thomas, Jason (Debbie) Cockerill, Aaron Cockerill, Enza Amendola, Jordan Cockerill, Stefan and Christian Rigole. Great grandfather of Jacob, Jackson, Spencer. Alessia, Adriana and Valentina. Dad was a WWII veteran who served in the Italian army. In 1943 Italy surrendered to the Americans so all Italian soldiers became the enemy and sent to prisoner of war camps, he was captured on September 8, 1944. Dad was in Germany for 2 years and talked of how very difficult the situation was. He was later repatriated back to Italy in November of 1945 and remained on the reserves until 1946. Dad never liked talking about the war but was proud to show his war wounds to his grandchildren. Dad married mom in 1947 and moved to Canada in 1953 and lived here for 4 years trying to save enough money to buy a house and car before he sent away for his wife and two daughters (aged 8 and 10) to come to Canada. Vince was a retired employee of PPG Canada in Mississauga. Dad loved the farm, animals, gardening and nothing made him laugh more than watching the Three Stooges. Right up until the end, dad had acute hearing, the eyesight of an eagle, sharp as a tack and a wicked sense of humor that would make every nurse and PSW (Personal Support Worker) laugh. Many thanks to dad's longtime physician, Dr. Walter Koslowski and the staff at the Milton District Hospital. Much loved and appreciation to the staff at Allendale Long-term Care in Milton including all the PSW's, volunteers and activity coordinators who tried to make dad feel welcomed and loved. Family and friends are invited to visit at the McKERSIE-KOCHER FUNERAL HOME 114 Main St. E. Milton 905-878-4452 from 5-8 pm on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Vigil Prayers will follow at the funeral home at 8 pm Thursday evening. The funeral service will be private at the request of the family. If desired, donations can be made to the Milton District Hospital Foundation. Letters of condolence may be left for the family at www.mckersie-kocher.ca.
