Beaudoin for the overall championship at the Halton District School Board's Everett elementary track-and-field meet, held recently in Burlington. West Oak, which won the junior boys' pennant and finished second in two other divisions, racked up 261 team points -- 10 less than C.R. Beaudoin. The two other Oakville schools to compete in the Everett championships, Post's Corners and Eastview, also enjoyed a successful meet. Post's Corners won both the intermediate girls' and senior girls' pennants, while Eastview won the intermediate boys' crown. In individual action, Eastview's Connor Hicks was a triple-gold medalist, winning the intermediate boys' 400-metre, 800m and 1,500m races. Doublegold winners were West Oak's Robert Scott (junior boys' 800m and 1,500m), Post's Corners Ashlee Azizudin (intermediate girls' 100m and 200m) and Eastview's Zaria Armstrong (senior girls' 100m and long jump). Sunningdale won the junior boys' pennant and was second in both the senior boys' and girls' divisions, helping the school rack up 245.5 points. W.H. Morden, which boasted the top senior boys' team at the meet, was second with 189 points. Other local schools to win a division pennant included E.J. James (junior girls) and Captain R. Wilson (senior girls). No school won more than one division title at the meet. Wilson's Roshanna Baker (senior girls' triple jump). Baker's leap of 9.91 metres in the senior girls' triple jump shattered the previous record of 9.56m. Heritage Glen's Melissa Laugegger (9.67m) also broke the previous record, but was forced to settle for silver. In relay action, Heritage Glen (intermediate boys), Sunningdale (senior girls) and Morden (senior boys) won one race each. The Collier meet was the first of five elementary meets held each spring by the Halton District School Board. Two schools from Burlington and four from the north area (Milton and Georgetown) also competed at the Collier championships. Other HDSB meets postponed The Halton District School Board's two other elementary school track and field meets scheduled for this spring were postponed due to weather issues. The Watson and Wallace meets will be made up Monday (June 25), according to Halton convener Diane Watson. Oakville schools affected by the postponements were Brookdale, James W. Hill, Montclair, Munn's, Pilgrim Wood, Emily Carr, Falgarwood, Joshua Creek, Maple Grove and Pine Grove. Results from the make-up meet will appear in a future edition of the Beaver. Forest Trail carries flag well for Oakville at Ortwein The lone Oakville school to compete at the Halton District School Board's Ortwein elementary track-and-field championships accounted for itself quite nicely. Forest Trail boasted seven event champions, won a pair of relays and claimed a division penannt at the meet, held recently in Burlington. Thomas Field led the way for the Coyotes, winning gold in the intermediate boys' 100-metre race, long jump and triple jump. Hazel Brown added victories in the intermediate girls' 100m and triple jump, with Taja McLean (intermediate girls' 400m) and Nicolette Rowland (senior girls' shot put) earning Forest Trail's other individual golds. The Coyotes also won the intermediate boys' and girls' relays, collected the intermediate girls' division title and placed a close second to Burlington's Aldershot in the intermediate boys' division. Acton school Mackenzie Smith Bennett won the overall meet championship, edging out Milton's W.I. Dick. The Ortwein meet featured the nine schools in Halton with the largest Grade 6-8 populations.
