Over the past eight years, unprecedent- ed Liberal investments in health, education and the economy have had a strong payoff here in Oakville. We have a state-of-the-art hospital under construction, 11 schools that have been built or enlarged, a wider QEW with HOV lanes, more GO train parking and on-time guarantees, no power plant and a commu- nity-based air quality improvement plan. Ontario has the best job creation record in Canada, thanks to strategic I believe this is the most important elec- tion we have faced in decades. The more people know, the more they realize its time for a change. The main issue in the Oakville riding is making sure people know that their vote in the Oct. 6 provincial election will have a profound impact on the future of their families and our community. Voters may think that all politicians are alike, but were not. Having worked in global finance and vol- unteered since 2003 with the Oakville Community Foundation and Oakvilles United Way, I believe that the PC Partys focus on providing relief to the family budget is urgently needed. Healthcare in Oakville is not just about new hospitals and waiting times. It is about people. It is about providing services people need, when they need them and where they need them. It is about helping seniors and the dis- abled to stay in their own homes by pro- viding care and support that is customized to their needs. For the $1,200 cost of a one-day stay in a hospital bed, 15 people could be helped through at-home supports. One in six people in hospital could be better served through other services. Ontario has 25,700 seniors waiting for long-term care. How long can they wait? What is the main election issue in Oakville? Throughout the provincial election cam- paign the Oakville Beaver will be asking candidates in the Oakville and Halton rid- ings to respond to weekly questions. Responses from the Oakville candidates will appear each Thursday and responses from the Halton candidates will appear each Friday leading up to the Oct. 6 elec- tion. The first question is "What is the main election issue in Oakville?"
