Sunny skies, thousands of spectators and good golf played by names like Mike Weir, Anthony Kim, Michael Jordan and Kevin Costner were just a few of the reasons why Glen Abbey Golf Club was the place to be on Monday. Although tournament play does not kick off until Thursday, big names came out Monday for the inaugural Mike Weir Charity Classic. The fundraiser saw 21 teams of amateur golfers paired with PGA Tour pros and celebrities. The chance to play with the likes of Stephen Ames or Martin Brodeur came with the price tag of $35,000 per foursome. All proceeds went to the Mike Weir Foundation, which supports children's health care and related causes across Canada. Monday's event was expected to raise more than $1 million thanks to additional proceeds raised at an auction held later in the day.
