OAKVILLE'S BEST REAL ESTATE SECTION INSIDE! Beaver THE OAKVILLE A member of Metroland Media Group Ltd. Vol. 47 No. 136 They won't be forgotten By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A bitterly cold November day did little to lessen the turnout at this year's Remembrance Day ceremony, held by the Oakville Legion on Tuesday. About 1,000 onlookers gathered near the Oakville Cenotaph at George's Square to express their gratitude to soldiers, past and present, and to remember those who perished in service to Canada, far away from home. As the 11th hour approached, so too did the faint playing of bagpipes and drums, which grew in intensity until a great procession of soldiers, police, RCMP, firefighters and many others made their way to the cenotaph to mark the ceremony's beginning. "We are here today to remember and reflect on the lives that served and were given to the cause of peace and freedom," said Legion Padre Douglas Bramer. "Our peace and freedom came to us at a tremendous cost. We do not wish to glorify or justify the horrors of war, but we are consoled by the fact that our men and women were ready to respond when the war clouds gathered, willing to stand up for what was right and just." A rendition of In Flanders Fields by the St. Andrew's Children Choir, brought more than one veteran to tears with selected hymns, the Canadian national anthem and God Save the Queen also adding to the Optimize Performance (Adults and Children) · Attention span is short · Difficulty organizing & completing work · also helpful for Asperger's · also Psycho-educational testing ADD Centre Neurofeedback and learning strategies can provide a lasting improvement. The idea came in the form of a budget reduction option in the community services programs presentation to the 2009 budget committee. The option outlines cutting the arts council's annual operating grant of $75,500 in half and phasing See Arts page 14 Inside Artscene......................................................23 Sports..........................................................32 Classified....................................................37 Full Delivery: Sport Chek, M&M's, Mark's Work Warehouse Partial Delivery: West of the City, Rogers Wireless, The Bay, JYSK Bed & Bath, Our Town Downtown, Pinocchios Pick of the Crop, Jazko, Loblaws, Gege's Pizza, Goodyear, FM Windows, Sheridan Nurseries, Home Depot, Bouclair, National Fireplace, Ideal Home, Staples Business, Sam's Club, Danier Leather, The Shoe Company, Henry's Camera LIESA KORTMANN / OAKVILLE BEAVER FOR GRANDDAD: Gordon Reid placed his grandfather's (Gordon Reid) helmet, dogtags and medals from the First World War on the cenotaph in George's Square following the Oakville Legion's (Branch 114) Remembrance Day ceremony yesterday.
