Franklin, the former UFC middleweight champ, currently sports a record of 24-3 and is scheduled to fight at UFC 93 in January. Raiders improve to 4-1 in senior football A new squad has emerged as the top club among Oakville's high school Division 1/2 senior football teams. The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders improved to 4-1 in Halton league play with a 17-0 blanking of the T.A. Blakelock Tigers Friday at Blakelock. The Raiders' victory, coupled with the Holy Trinity Titans' 39-15 loss at home to the Nelson Lords, moved Aquinas a game ahead of Trinity in the overall league standings. Defence continued to be the key for the Raiders against Blakelock. Taylor Vander Doelen led Aquinas in sacks and tackles, Luke Kahnert recovered a fumble and Mario Cacioppo intercepted a pass. Aquinas quarterback Zack Aleluia led a pair of touchdown drives in the second half, capped off by TD runs by Josh Ruys and Chris Knap. Alex Kuntz booted two converts and a field goal for the Raiders. Blakelock was playing without starting QB Scott Redshaw and receiver Jim Wehlpdale, both serving suspensions from an incident the previous week against Abbey Park. The Tigers were also without starting tailback Connor Anson-Cartwright (ankle injury). Shawn Lovell played pivot and Josh Plante started at tailback for the 0-5 Tigers, who trailed 3-0 at half. The Loyola Hawks picked up their second win of the year, also riding a shutout effort from their defence. Led by strong play from linebackers Zak Colangelo and Paul Giorno, as well as defensive tackle Joey Manes, the Hawks edged the M.M. Robinson Rams 1-0 Thursday in Burlington. Tyler Badham snuffed out a Rams drive by recovering a fumble on the Loyola 45-yard line. Punter Dustin DeGiorgis provided the Hawks with favourable field position throughout the contest. Other scores from last week involving Oakville schools were Georgetown 47, Oakville Trafalgar 7; Bishop Reding 18, Abbey Park 0; and Lester B. Pearson 33, Iroquois Ridge 29.
