www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday October 4, 2008 - 7 Bonnie Brown Continued from page 2 Brown said she feels she has accomplished a lot during her time as an MP. "One (of my proudest accomplishments) is the extension of maternity benefits to one year," she said. "Another is being part of the movement to stop Canada from going to the Iraq War. A third is convincing the then prime minister that we should not enter the American missile defence program." While some people long for retirement, Brown said she has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. She said she has many more things she'd like to accomplish as the MP for Oakville. The first thing she'd like to do if re-elected is develop a Department of Peace and Development at the federal level. "Whereas the defence department is constantly wanting more weapons and more assignments, if we had a minister of peace and development, it would balance things a little bit," she said.
