www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 2, 2007 - 37 Triumph of Peace concert to honour veterans Nov. 11 Intrada Brass of Oakville's season opener on Sunday, Nov. 11 is a salute to those who served in the armed forces in two world wars and other military engagements. The Remembrance Day concert is called The Triumph of Peace, and will present music of the war years and other music appropriate to the occasion. It's to kick off the local band's 20072008 season, entitled A Blazon of Trumpets. The band's guest soloist on trumpet will be Sergeant Derek Lance, of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point. Sgt. Lance is one of America's most acclaimed trumpet players, having performed for conductors including Charles Duthoit, Mstislav Rostropovich and Sir Simon Rattle. With Intrada Brass he will perform Philip Sparke's Manhattan as a salute to New York and 9/11. He will also join with members of the band's cornet section for a trio, The Veterans. The ensemble's repertoire will include The Dambusters March, Journey Into Freedom, Spitfire Prelude and Fugue and The Triumph of Peace. The show also includes the concert march Vimy Ridge. The concert will be conducted by music director, Bram Gregson. Intrada Brass is offering special group discounts to veterans who want to attend the Remembrance Day concert. The Triumph of Peace will take the stage at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11.
