PHOTOS BY BARRIE ERSKINE / OAKVILLE BEAVER Pilgrim Wood wins three pennants, overall title at Collier meet Winning three of six pennants, Pilgrim Wood claimed the overall championship at the Halton District School Board's Collier elementary school track-and-field meet Wednesday in Burlington. Pilgrim Wood was tops in junior girls', intermediate girls' and intermediate boys' competition, tying with Heritage Glen for second in junior boys' action. W.H. Morden was the other Oakville school to win a pennant, finishing first in the junior boys' division. Ali McCormack won three individual events for Pilgrim Wood, finishing first in intermediate girls' 100-metre, 200m and shot put. Courtney den Elzen (junior girls' 100m and 200m), Kinley McNicoll (intermediate girls' 800m and 1,500m) and Brandon Johnston (intermediate boys' long jump and triple jump) were other multiple-event winners for Pilgrim Wood. For W.H. Morden, Levenia Prempeh (senior girls' 100m, 200m and shot put), Asad Barahum (junior boys' 400m and triple jump), Sarah Steeves (senior girls' 400m and 1,500m) and Stephen Mcphaden (intermediate boys' 100m and 400m) each won at least two events. Heritage Glen, Captain R. Wilson and Abbey Lane also competed in the meet, which was the fourth of five the Halton District School Board is holding this spring and was for the second-smallest schools in the region. Jordan Pitlivka won the junior boys' 100m, long jump and shot put for Captain R. Wilson. In relay action, Pilgrim Wood won the junior girls', intermediate boys' and senior girls' races. W.H. See Collier page 42 MEDAL MAGNET: Nine-year-old Michelle Gervais displays three of the nine medals -- one of each colour -- she earned at the recent TOP Cup 10-and-under swim meet in Etobicoke. Gervais' strong showing helped the Dolphins Swim Club, which had only six members at the meet, win the small team award and finish 10th out of the 25 clubs that competed. DEREK WOOLLAM / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Gervais leads Dolphins with nine-medal effort The Dolphins Swim Club didn't send many competitors to the recent TOP Cup 10-and-under swim meet, but the few it sent made their presence felt. The Dolphins won the small team award and finished 10th out of 25 clubs overall despite having only six swimmers at the meet, which was held at the Etobicoke Olympium. Leading the charge was nine-year-old Michelle Gervais, who finished the meet with nine medals. Gervais won the 50-metre and 400m freestyle as well as the 50m backstroke, earned silver in the 200m individual medley and 100m and 200m freestyle, and claimed bronze in the 100m backstroke and 50m and 100m butterfly. Other Dolphins to win medals were 10-year-olds Olivia Sbaraglia and Conor Russell. Sbaraglia won silver in 50m and 100m freestyle as well as 50m backstroke, adding a bronze in 100m backstroke. Russell took bronze in 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke. Three new 10-and-under club records were set at the meet.
