Notes:
In this interview, Joy Smith discusses being a trainer during World War II as a Non-Commission Officer. Joy explains that she originally became involved in the war effort because her father was a major in the First World War and a colonel of the Queen’s Own Rangers in the Second World War, although he never saw action. She explains that she was one of the first women instructors with two stripes and spent two years in Quebec training to be a trainer. Joy also talks about being a platoon sergeant in Halifax and training young men to be trainers there. Lastly, Joy speaks about her wedding. She met her husband who was an old friend and they married within a week.
