Dear Mother,

It is just one year today since I landed in Udine Station and was whisked out in an ambulance to Villa Trento to meet new faces, new work, new ways of living and everything. It has been a wonderful year and I think I enumerated a few of the happenings in another letter so won’t burden you again.

Our stations changed since my last letter. It is a horrible habit they have. You no sooner get used to one set of officers and they are whisked away and you have to start all over again. However this new lot is a very decent bunch and they are quite nice to me. One Tenente looks just like Fred Davidson and he has his brusque manner as well and I think he would be just as kind hearted.

I have been seriously worried as to whether a second deluge was coming over the world or not. For the last twelve days it has been raining, only stopping for an hour or so each day and part of the time coming down in sheets. Today the sun is peeping but I have no doubt at all that soon there will be a shower.

I had a most disagreeable run yesterday with our major to a place about 40 kilometers away. It literally poured all the way and I have no wind-screen and my coat isn’t rain-proof. We has a puncture as well and I got well splashed on the road while I was mending it. My one consolation was the fact that the major got pretty well soaked too..

Not having any news I think I’ll close and write more fully in a few days. I got yours Aunt Ede’s, and Cousin Nell’s letters the other day. Yours was very late coming and I am looking for another soon. Love to all. Allan.
