ORRELL, Ruth Ann It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Ruth Orrell at St. Michael's Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the age of 52, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was a resident of Oakville and a native of Campbellford, Ontario where she grew up and went to school before moving to Toronto, where she worked at various companies in the financial services industry. She is survived by her partner Alfred, her daughter Cassandra, her mother Joan (pre-deceased by her father Roy (1998), her brother Ross (Charlene), her brother Don (Charlene), her brother Pat (Glenda), her mother-in-law Mavis, sister-in-law Marcia, her nieces and nephews, Estelle, Melissa, John, Mike, Ryan and Ashley and her beloved little dog, Toby. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Christine Brezden-Masley from St. Michael's hospital and her oncology team for all their efforts and care, together with the wonderful doctors and staff in St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit. Special thanks also to the staff at Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House (Halton-Peel) for their care and support during Ruth's journey, as well as to her close friend Lynne Taylor for all her care and support and to her wider circle of friends and colleagues who provided support and love through their visits, cards and prayers. A celebration of Ruth's life following cremation will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre , 3164 Ninth Line (at Dundas Street) in Oakville on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it was Ruth's wish that donations be made to Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House (Halton-Peel), Ian Anderson House Hospice in Oakville or Cancer Care Ontario. Online condolences may be made through www.glenoaks.ca. In recognition of the colour that Ruth brought to so many of our lives, please consider wearing something of colour instead of full black to the celebration. Ruth's vivacious spirit lives on through organ/tissue donation.
