NIXON, Mable Edna Evelyn August 17, 1940 - October 8, 2013 It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Mable Nixon (nee MacLeod) of Oakville, on Tuesday, October 8th at the age of 73. She was surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of 52 years to Ted, loving mother to Scott (pre-deceased), Pamela and Jill, sons-in-law Geof Goebel and Andrew McFarland and wonderful Nana to grandchildren Regan, Lucy, Quinn and Hayden. Predeceased by her parents John MacLeod and Anna Cecilia (Swanson) and brother John (Laurie), she is survived by her sister Diane Hesse (Stuart) of Georgetown. She is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mable led life with 2 clubs every time. She lived life on her own terms, embraced each challenge with fierce determination and always cheered for the underdog. She started her career as a Nurse in Vancouver, B.C but also worked locally at South Peel, Queensway and O.T.M.H. Years later, she began a new career as an Early Childhood Educator and worked at St. Hilda's, New Horizons and Creative Learning Centre pre-schools in Oakville. Her gentle spirit and progressive approach gave many young children a wonderful start in life. Mable was a founding member of Glen Abbey United Church. She embraced her faith as an ongoing debate to be questioned and validated and welcomed discussion from anyone. She was no shrinking violet to political exchanges either. As an avid bridge player, she cherished her time with her bridge ladies. She traveled the world but loved being at home with her family the most. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Drs. Pyle and Benjamin, and the staff at Ian Anderson House. Everyone's compassion was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. With respect to Mable's wishes, cremation has taken place. Everyone is welcome to attend a memorial service for Mable at Glen Abbey United Church on Friday October 18, 2013 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life reception at the Oakville Conference Centre, at Wycroft and Bronte Road, from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mable's memory to Ian Anderson House or Wellspring Oakville would be appreciated.
