KLARER, Allen Jan. 20, 1924 - Jan. 13, 2013 (WWII Veteran, The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada) Passed away peacefully on January 13, 2013 at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Palliative Care one week short of his 89th birthday. Pre-deceased by parents and siblings, his caring, giving, loving ways will be missed by Eve, his children David (Beverley), Lorraine, Barbara (Blake) and Rodger (Linda), his grandchildren Kevin (Stephanie), Brian (Veronique), David (Tracy), Michael (Alex), Christian, Daniel and Alexandra, and many other friends and acquaintances. Having an active life from a very early age, he was always involved in serving various aspects of business, community, country and his family. From helping his family during the depression he went on to join the armed forces which included being on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Returning to civilian life, his path took him through Kingston and then on to Oakville- the town he loved and loved to do things for. Allen was the first CEO of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce from 1954 to 1968 and included president for the Chamber Executives for Canada and Ontario as well as a director and Canadian representative to the American Chamber Executives. Some of his other notable achievements included being a founding member of the Oakville YMCA-YWCA, the Oakville United Way and Halton Family Services. His career also included NHBA, HUDAC and Metro Toronto Services. After retirement, Allen remained extremely active in the community by being a long-term volunteer to several Oakville and Halton Region committees including the Elder Services Advisory Committee (ESAC) and Seniors And Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) He also stayed active physically in the community playing badminton weekly and walking up to ten miles per day until just recently - completing over 46,000 MILES - with the Oakville Place Mall Walkers. Allen, Dad, Grandpa, friend...you have so many experiences, certificates, awards and battle scars of life to show for all of your accomplishments. But, even more importantly, you have a family and many others who love, appreciate you and who will miss you and how you touched each of our lives. You will live on in our community and within our hearts forever. Visitation will be held at the KOPRIVA TAYLOR COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME, 64 Lakeshore Road W (1 block east of Kerr St, 905-844-2600), Oakville on Thursday, January 17th from 7 to 9 p.m. Please bring your fond memories to write down and be shared by others. A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allen's name to Oakville (Kerr) & John Colborne Senior Centres or Oakville Humane Society would be appreciated. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com.
