Description
According to the contributor, Alice Perry Dixon's husband was killed in the Boer War. There was little prospect of work or a future for their two daughters in England. After reading an ad for emigrants to Canada in the "Family Herald & Weekly Star", published in Montreal, Mrs. Dixon obtained the help of the Salvation Army in arranging their boat passage. One daughter married Carl Saunders (the Saunders' farm was Lot 11, Concession 7, Trafalgar Township).
Notes
The Trafalgar Township Historical Society Winter Newsletter 2009 shows a postcard addressed to Mrs. Dixon as an example of the post card collection of Mr. David Hobden. As was customary for the time, she is addressed with the initials of her husband.
