- Alvin Bumby joined the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in Hamilton the first week after war broke out in 1939, and was overseas from 1939-1946. Irene Bumby worked "on relief" as a registered nurse in England from 1939-1944 and moved to Canada as a war bride in 1946.
